Community Photo Challenge-FIREWORKS!

fireworks Banner

This is a great time to have a FIREWORKS Challenge!! This challenge will last for 2 weeks, starting today and ending July 9th.
If you never shot fireworks, you will need a tripod, camera with a shutter release or remote. Set your camera to manual mode, your aperture to f8 and snap shutter at the start of the explosion , hold the shutter down as it burst, then release. I use ISO 100 (but you can use 200)
Remember to post the images on your blog, come back here and leave your link by clicking on the blue Inlinkz button at the bottom of this post.

I'm hoping that where we're spending the holiday (in VA) there will be fireworks. You know, since we moved to LI we have not been able to find a fireworks display to go to?!? I know they're happening...but it seems like all these little communities keep their fireworks a secret. And that Bald Hill thing is a traffic nightmare. So...fingers crossed for a colorful 4th! If not...I'll hit the archives.

Jones beach has one, it's another traffic nightmare, but thats all of Long Island. Find the small town papers...Dan's paper is found out east, but most communities have their own little papers, you should be able to find something..;)) I know there is something going on at the DAM near us, in Westchester...but traffic is a problem there too...;(

From the "For-what-it's-worth" department, here's some helpful (?) information and tips > http://www.digital-photography-school.com/how-to-photograph-fireworks/

Hopefully I can get out and shoot. The annual Harborfest fireworks were cancelled due to weather and will combined with the regular Inependence Day show. Should be a good one in the Norfolk (VA) harbor. Try to include the city scape or people in your shots. Park at least 10 blocks away and remember to go to the bathroom before you leave home. Settings: 10 seconds, iso 100, f11, tripod. Or bulb setting and hold ball cap over lens and remove until you think you've got the shot. The Grande Finale is usually too busy and if there's no wind, it will be obscured by smoke.

Thanks for the kick in the butt I needed to try to shoot Fireworks. I had only tried once years ago. I had great fun shooting them on Saturday night.
